Topic: Phrase (Part 2)

Revision: A Phrase is a group of words without a Finite Verb.

In this lesson we shall look at the Classification of Phrases.

1. Adjectival Phrase
These type of Phrases qualify the noun or tells us more about the noun.
E.g.
The woman with the dazzling smile came from The Gambia.

2. Noun Phrases
These type of Phrases answer the questions who or what in connection with the noun.
E.g.
Everyone in the classroom, clapped when Abiba entered.

3. Adverbial Phrase
These type of Phrases answer the following questions How, When, Where, Why, etc.
Example,

a. Adverbial Phrase of Manner (How?)
The man entered the room happily and confidently.

b. Adverbial Phrase of Time (When ?)
The man entered the room at ten pm.

c. Adverbial Phrase of Place. (Where ?)
The girl in the room was reading a book.

d. Adverbial Phrase of Reason. (Why?)
The man, wanting to kill, sneaked into the room.

e. Adverbial Phrase of Concession. (Although, even though, )
The athlete, although tired, won the event.

👉Word of the Day  "exfoliate"

/eks'fəvlieıt/ Verb.

To remove rough or dead cells from the surface of the skin in order to make your skin smoother.

Example in Sentence:
1. Maame Esi exfoliated her body before the wedding.
2. Mansah bought exfoliated pormade from the Beautician.
